he Great Bullroarer bit in The Hobbit, the unexpected party. When the goblins invade the Shire
and Bullroarer knocks the goblins head off and rolls down a hole. The battle was won and the
game of golf invented at the same time. Strange Tolkien should mention golf, dont you think?

The golf bit was in the book. the hobbit.
The football bit i made up. funny thou. Laughing Laughing

That's my favorite part in the Hobbit!!! I play golf, and I tell all my friends about Tolkeins description of golf, and then they tell me to shut it... Then again, I can be annoyingly persistant with LOTR facts sometimes.... Rolling Eyes Laughing

Thanks for the clarification Chris. You had me worried a bit then. I thought I'd missed something there. And, Tin, I loved the golf bit too. Laughing

My favorite weapon has to be Gimli's axe. It just looks b.a. lol. And it's cool how Gimli took it up from Balin's smashed tomb (which was written for the movie's sake, not in the book :p ) Which would have been more meaningful if they actually showed it or told of it in the film
I also like Legolas's original bow. I don't hate the one Galadriel gives him (which had elven hair as the string i believe) But, his old one was cool looking

I would guess Tolkien based the golf story on a Scottish folktale (we invented golf for those who might not know). I heard it as a kid from my grandfather. I can't remember all the details; if it was two clan chiefs or whoever the protagonists were, but they were said to have charged at one another on horseback and one loped the others head off and it went down a rabbit hole. Its so similar an origin story for the game that it would seem likely Tolkien simply stole it and changed it to be Bullroarer and a goblin.

I like all the weapons because the choice is depends on the how easily and comfortable you use that and looking nice but the work is same of all the weapons to harm anyone

I very much like sting. If it came to having my own weapon choice combo, I would have a gladius type short sword in my left hand for jabbing and parrying; in my right hand I would have a falcata type sword as it has the sharp inner curve like a kukri but also has the weight and chopping power of an axe.

[For those who have been into D20 tabletop Rpgs in the past/present, a falcata would be in my mindset 1-6 damage like a short sword but would have a critacal range of a scimitar of 18-20 (due to the curve) but would have the critical damage of x3 like and axe. (due to the chopping power) In order to balance this weapon out I would not allow it to be used to improve armour class by fighting defensivly as it is to unwieldy for parrying.]

Durin

I would personally go with what Gandalf has in Return of the King. Glamdring and a glimmering white staff.

Dwarf on a pole. Nothing angrier than a Dwarf in an Orc fight except for a Dwarf tied to the end of a long pole and being waved about in an Orc fight. Give him an axe nothing would get near you.
And if you find yourself in the Mines of Moria you can put a light on him and use him to check in dark recesses. Even with the Balrog you'd at least get the element of surprise when you whip out an angry Dwarf on a pole and wave it at him instead of the expected sword.
Of course getting your Dwarf and attaching him to a pole could be a problem but there's probably skilled Dwarfpolesmiths in Laketown due to the abundance of nearby Dwarves to be mined in the mountain.

I'm not that interested in weapons but my favourites are Eowyn's sword (I just like the design in the movie) and Glamdring (for it has had a long history lasting for thousands of years) because the Elvish swords always look very nice!

Theoden's and Eowyn's swords by far Great design. The other swords tend to look the same, but those swords are different. Love them

Good choices. You are right about the swords being generally quite samey- at least onscreen. Its thanks to the sameness I got away with putting the reforging back to Rivendell in my edits- the sword hilts are so similar nobody who has watched them has noticed the sword changes just before Paths of the Dead- but apart from making my job easier I don't now why they made them all so samey.

Eldorion

All of the swords of the Rohirrim nobles are immensely cool. 8-) The design team made pretty much everything awesome, but Rohan in general is one of my favourite parts of the films. BTW, does anyone else have the tie-in book [i:1qen5mzv]Weapons and Warfare[/i:1qen5mzv]? It's got a lot of amazing pictures from both the production and the finished films as well as some interesting insights into what the film-makers had in mind, albeit written from the point of view of a faux-history.

I am looking forwards to seeing the new weapons in the film, especially Bards bow. I was not keen on the bow of Legolas, it looked too frail for serious use.
